WhatsApp Messenger is the most popular chat apps in the world which is used by everyone to send free text messages. If you have been using messenger app on your smartphone, then you should know about the latest WhatsApp update after which some of the smartphones won’t be supported by the app.
Earlier this month, WhatsApp introduced the video calling features as well as GIF support and if you are using an Android device, then you can download the latest version of WhatsApp APK to keep the app updated with all the latest features. This is the only app that is available on almost all the mobile operating systems including Windows Phone, BlackBerry as well as on Symbian OS. However, the recent development suggests that your phone might not be supported by the app in 2017.
WhatsApp Update – Which Smartphones Won’t be Supported in 2017?
In February this year, WhatsApp announced that it would end the support for older smartphones running on older mobile operating systems like Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Symbian, BlackBerry and more.
Back when WhatsApp was first released in 2009, the majority of smartphones sold were of Blackberry; but that’s not the case now, as the smartphone industry is dominated by Android and iOS devices. Owning to these changes, WhatsApp says that they will be stopping support to the older devices and focus on bringing improvements and new features to the devices that are currently in use.
If you are using the smartphones that are running on older versions or you own an old model, then you should change your device soon to avoid this issue. Check out all the smartphones that won’t be supported by WhatsApp in 2017.
List of Smartphones That Won’t Be Supported
BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10: WhatsApp will stop supporting most of the BlackBerry devices including BlackBerry Z10, BlackBerry Passport and BlackBerry Classic. The support for these phones will end on June 30, 2017.
Android 2.1 and Android 2.2: These are the earlier versions of Android OS and there won’t be many devices running these OS. However, if you do have these OS, then the smartphones won’t be supported.
iPhone 3GS and iOS 6: Since most of the iPhone users own an iPhone 4S and later, there isn’t much to worry about here. Also, iOS 6 won’t be supported any longer!
Windows Phone 7: Microsoft’s attempt to revolutionize the smartphone industry failed and even though there are a few select people using Lumia smartphones, they should know that the WhatsApp won’t be supported any longer.
Nokia S40 and Symbian S60: The Nokia feature phones as well as older Nokia high-end phones will be removed from the support list.
UPDATE: WhatsApp is extending support for BlackBerry OS, BlackBerry 10, Nokia S40 and Nokia Symbian S60 until June 30, 2017.
If you have any of these older smartphones running older versions of operating systems, then you should upgrade your device and get the latest version so that you can continue using the WhatsApp Messenger app even after the update.
